Founded with knowledge, managed with consistency

Fontaine Engineering und Maschinen GmbH (FOEN®) was founded in 1969 by Paul Fontaine († 1998), a French engineer with extensive experience in the galvanizing industry. His aim was to develop technology that meets the requirements of leading steel producers. FOEN® is now managed by his son, Pascal Fontaine and other family members have executive responsibilities.

FOEN® is a family-run company and global market leader in the sector which guarantees continuity, stability and reliability.

1969

Founding

by Paul Fontaine Engineering in the in-house garage near Langenfeld (Rhineland) by engineer Paul Fontaine and Nicole Fontaine. specialized in innovative components for hot-dip galvanizing plants.

1973

Delivery of the first FOEN® stripping nozzles,

which set standards worldwide in the precise control of zinc layers.

The first milestone

the registration of the Paul Fontaine Engineering brand with the German Trademark Office.

1980

Moving into Poensgenstraße,

to expand the production area

Relocation of the US subsidiary

to Bridgeport, West Virginia, for direct customer support in North America.

1996

Opening of the branch in Wuhan (China)

as a strategic step towards opening up the Asian market with Nan Li in the position of general manager.

Continuation of the company by Nicole Fontaine

After the death of founder Paul Fontaine, his wife took over the management of the company. With her determination, she successfully continued Fontaine Engineering and strengthened its position in industry.

Moving to Industriestrasse 28 in Langenfeld

After three years of planning and construction, the new company headquarters in Langenfeld were moved into.

2003

Change of management at Fontaine Engineering.

After Nicole Fontaine's successful management, her son took over the company, continued the family tradition and brought fresh ideas for further growth.

DEMCO® (Dynamic Electro-Magnetic Coating Optimizer) trademark registration

a technology for electromagnetic stabilization and vibration damping of metal strips.

2013-2016

New patents for

innovative processes and devices for continuous coil coating are registered and published.

DEMCOJET® trademark registration,

a further development of our high-performance equipment to stabilize the strip in the electroplating process.

2022

Construction and integration of the 175th plant

As a milestone, the construction and integration of the 175th plant combined modular construction, optimised control technology and strict quality assurance, which successfully put the plant into operation.

2023

Award at Galvanizers 2023.

For nearly 39 years of exceptional commitment to the galvanizing industry, Dominique Fontaine was recognized at the Galvanizers Conference and subsequently entered retirement.

2025

Transformation of Fontaine Engineering USA

The transformation of Fontaine Engineering USA Inc. into Fontaine Engineering USA LLC has been completed, the corporate structure has been modernized; business operations and customer relationships will continue as usual.
